Federal Reserve's Williams: The low CPI data is due to technical factors, and there is no rush to adjust monetary policy
On December 19, Federal Reserve Williams stated on Friday that certain “technical factors” may have distorted the November Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, leading to the data being below the actual level. Williams said, “There are some special actual factors related to the difficulty in collecting data in October and the first half of November. Because of this, I believe that data in certain categories has been distorted, which may have pulled the CPI data down by about 0.1 percentage points.” Williams also mentioned that the US economy is currently in a “good state” and hinted that he “will ultimately see” interest rates decline. But he emphasized that he is not in a hurry to adjust monetary policy. (Jin10)
