How much real money exists in the world?

A question many crypto enthusiasts ask themselves: if Bitcoin is meant to be “money for everyone,” is there enough value at stake?

The Numbers That Change Everything

Physical Money (Bills and coins): approximately $9 trillion USD

  • Seems like a lot, but it’s only about 6% of the total

Money in the banking system:

  • Deposits and accounts: around $100 trillion USD
  • Institutional funds: about $150 trillion USD

The reality: The actual money (cash + deposits) circulating worldwide is roughly $150 trillion USD

Who controls what

Now, here’s the interesting part. This wealth isn’t evenly distributed:

  • 🇺🇸 U.S.: approximately $62 trillion USD (41%)
  • 🇨🇳 China: roughly $16 trillion USD (11%)
  • 🇯🇵 Japan: about $6.5 trillion USD (4%)

And what about “financial assets”?

Stocks, bonds, derivatives—all combined—total over 1 quintillion USD. But beware: this isn’t real money; these are paper valuations. When the market shifts, those numbers can vanish.

For those who say “there’s no money for Bitcoin”

With $150 trillion in real money plus accelerating institutional demand, the question isn’t “Is there money?” but “What percentage will migrate to digital assets?”

That would truly change the game.
