When Hurricane Melissa hit, the whole community went dark.
No power.
No connection.
No way for people to check on family or feel less alone.
So I put up my Starlink and started offering WiFi for small fee to fund operation cost.
Not for profit— just because people needed something stable in the middle of chaos.
But chaos doesn’t only come from storms.
At first, everything was simple.
Scan the QR code.
Get connected.
Call your loved ones.
Then I noticed something…
People were sharing the code.
Some were doing it quietly.
Some boldly.
Some probably didn’t think twice — “WiFi is WiFi,” right?
And a small part of me felt disappointed.
Not because of the money…
but because I was trying to help,
and the system I built was being taken advantage of.
It made me realize something:
Most “dishonesty” isn’t malicious.
It’s opportunity meeting weak structure.
So I rebuilt the structure.
I numbered every device that paid.
Hid the network.
Paused every unnumbered device.
And suddenly…
silence.
Those who never paid couldn’t browse.
But they also couldn’t complain.
Because deep down, they knew exactly why.
The ones who tried to cheat?
They came back quietly.
Cash in hand.
Eyes avoiding mine.
Not out of fear —
but out of understanding.
Accountability hits harder when it’s gentle.
Some tried to register multiple devices under one payment.
Some sent kids to negotiate.
Some genuinely didn’t have the money.
For those last ones…
I still let them through.
Because storms don’t hit everyone equally.
And that’s when it clicked:
People don’t take advantage of generosity.
They take advantage of systems with no boundaries.
Once the boundaries were clear,
everything flowed.
And that’s exactly how trading works.
Everyone thinks trading is about predicting direction…
But most losses come from your own lack of boundaries.
No rules → you get drained.
Clear rules → you stay in control.
Some traders “steal from themselves”:
— overleveraging
— revenge trades
— adding risk because “no one will know”
But the market always knows.
It pauses your account the same way I paused those devices.
And sooner or later,
you walk back to your chart,
quiet, humbled,
finally ready to follow the rules.
Because whether it’s WiFi after a hurricane
or capital in the markets…
You protect what matters
by creating boundaries that hold
even when people — or your own impulses — don’t.
