Web3 data storage issues have been stuck for a long time. High costs for on-chain large files, low recovery efficiency, and the inability to accommodate monster-sized datasets like videos and AI data are major pain points. This time, the emergence of Walrus seems to be taking things seriously.

This project directly addresses the pain points with Red Stuff two-dimensional coding technology. Compared to Filecoin and Arweave solutions, Walrus significantly reduces data recovery costs. But what’s truly remarkable is its programmable storage concept—through Move smart contracts, storage resources can be traded like regular assets and support automatic renewal. This means data is no longer a permanent archive once stored, but a dynamic, manageable live asset.

In terms of funding, they have raised $140 million, with the mainnet launching soon. Interestingly, the token distribution logic reserves over 60% of WAL for airdrops and community reserves. Plus, with a partnership with Pipe Network, the read/write latency between global nodes is controlled within 50 milliseconds, making this network efficiency comparable to centralized solutions.

From an application perspective, Walrus is not just a storage tool; it has potential in new tracks like Web3 media ecosystems and RWA asset on-chain. Combining technical barriers with ecological potential, projects like this are definitely worth paying more attention to.
