One of the core promises of Web3 is data sovereignty. But in reality, our files are still stored on servers of centralized giants like AWS and Google—once there's a downtime, policy change, or censorship, your data is gone.

This is a real pain point. Centralized cloud storage seems cheap and convenient, but it actually hides risks of single points of failure, exorbitant bills, and most importantly—you don't truly own your data.

The Walrus protocol aims to completely change this situation. Built on the Sui blockchain, it uses erasure coding and blob storage technology to split and disperse your files across global nodes. The benefits of this approach are: redundant backups ensure data is never lost, costs are much lower than traditional cloud services, and it is fully decentralized—no one can unilaterally delete or alter your data.

What are the practical uses? Developers can store AI model training datasets, creative professionals can back up high-definition media, and enterprises can manage massive media libraries. With the explosive growth of AI applications in the future, PB-level and EB-level data will become the norm. Centralized storage will eventually become a bottleneck. Decentralized storage networks, on the other hand, open a new door to the data market—data can not only be stored but also truly used and traded.

Wake up, if AWS goes down, your data will be gone. This issue should have been fixed long ago.

Another story of promising a beautiful reality but being painfully realistic. Where is the promised data sovereignty?

Wait, is Walrus reliable? Can it really be that cheap?

You're hyping Walrus again... But to be honest, I personally experienced the AWS outage, and almost lost the data. Seeing this now still gives me some psychological shadow.

Is Walrus and Sui a reliable combo? --- After the AWS outage, I was thinking, our data really isn't ours. --- Decentralized storage sounds great, but can it really be cheap? I feel like we're about to get ripped off again. --- That erasure coding technology probably isn't reliable; it's better to run your own nodes for peace of mind. --- I'm actually interested in data trading—can it really make money? --- Centralized giants are indeed disgusting, but who knows how long Walrus can last. --- Storing PB-level data on the chain? The gas fees would be insane haha. --- Isn't this just distributed storage with a different name? Arweave has been doing that for a while. --- The key is who will use the ecosystem; without practical applications, it's all pointless. --- Sounds good. I like this direction. Finally, someone is seriously working on data sovereignty.

This is what Web3 should look like. Finally, someone is doing real work. --- Once again, it's the Sui ecosystem. Whether Walrus is reliable depends on future developments. --- Honestly, it's still about holding your own data; don't trust anyone. --- The garbage fees charged by AWS are really outrageous. There should have been alternatives long ago. --- Decentralized storage sounds good, but how many people are actually using it in practice? --- Data trading has a lot of potential, but how will regulation be handled? --- Redundant backup and distributed storage feel much more reliable than single points of failure. --- Erasure coding technology sounds advanced, but how is its actual performance? --- The era of PB-scale data is really coming; if you don't plan ahead, you'll be late. --- Will Walrus also become the next centralized platform? That's the question. --- Finally understanding why so many people are optimistic about Sui. --- Cheaper costs and decentralization—this business definitely has potential.
