Foreign investors' ownership of US assets has never been higher:
The total financial assets of the US held globally surged 13.6% year-over-year in Q3 2025, reaching a record $64.1 trillion. Holdings have DOUBLED since 2018 and have grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of (CAGR) since 2015. At the same time, the US net international investment position decreased by 11.2% year-over-year, reaching a record -$27.6 trillion in Q3 2025. This means foreigners hold more than $27.6 trillion in US assets than Americans hold abroad. Meanwhile, in 2025, foreign investors' purchases of US stocks increased sharply by 134% year-over-year, reaching $720.1 billion. Demand for US assets has never been higher than it is today.
