The United Nations Security Council issues a statement on the Sudan situation, calling for an immediate ceasefire and ensuring humanitarian access
On February 24th local time, the United Nations Security Council issued a statement expressing serious concern over the ongoing escalation of violence in Sudan. The statement called for all parties involved in the conflict to immediately cease fighting and to protect civilians. It noted that the situation remains tense in various regions of Sudan, including North Kordofan and Darfur. Security Council members strongly condemned recent drone attacks targeting civilians, civilian infrastructure, humanitarian personnel, and facilities. Reports indicate that since early February 2026, the World Food Programme has been repeatedly attacked. The Security Council members reiterated that deliberate attacks on humanitarian personnel and facilities may constitute war crimes and urged all parties to ensure the safety of humanitarian workers in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
