Caixin Government Work Report Sets 2026 GDP Growth Target at 4.5%–5%, Using a Range for the Third Time

On March 5th, Premier Li Qiang delivered the government work report, stating that the main development target for 2026 is: economic growth of 4.5%–5%, with efforts to achieve better results in practice; urban surveyed unemployment rate around 5.5%; over 12 million new urban jobs; consumer price index increase of about 2%; residents’ income growth synchronized with economic growth; basic balance of international payments; grain output around 1.4 trillion jin; and CO2 emissions per unit of GDP reduced by approximately 3.8%.
