The escalating US-Iran conflict continues to threaten critical water infrastructure, shifting the focus from oil security to water resource security. Approximately 100 million people in Gulf countries rely on around 450 seawater desalination plants, with Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain nearly 100% dependent on desalination, and Saudi Arabia's dependence reaching 70%. Iran attacked a power plant in the UAE that supplies electricity to a large seawater desalination plant, and reports indicate that the US also targeted Iranian sites, resulting in water outages for about 30 villages. Bahrain also announced that its facilities were attacked by Iran, putting the drinking water of millions at risk.
