The U.S. Air Force has awarded Honeywell a prototype contract to design a lightweight engine for its Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program. This engine will be an evolution of Honeywell’s SkyShot 1600, intended for autonomous “loyal wingman” drones flying alongside manned fighters. The contract signifies Honeywell’s entry into a critical emerging market for defense propulsion.
