Tesla's European sales in January decreased by 23% year-on-year, with Norway plummeting by 88%

Recently, Tesla (TSLA.US) has experienced significant changes in sales in some European countries. Data from the European electric vehicle registration database shows that in January 2026, Tesla’s sales in the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, and Switzerland declined sharply year-over-year, while sales in Spain, Italy, Sweden, and Finland increased notably.

In the UK, Tesla’s sales in January 2025 were 1,450 units (5% market share), but dropped to 714 units (2.5% market share) in January 2026, a 51% decrease year-over-year. In the Netherlands, sales in January 2025 were 927 units (8.1% market share), decreasing to 303 units (4.3% market share) in January 2026, a 67% decline. Norway’s situation was even more severe, with sales of 687 units (7.5% market share) in January 2025, falling to 83 units (2.9% market share) in January 2026, an 88% drop.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s sales in Italy increased by 77% year-over-year, from 406 units in January 2025 to 710 units in January 2026, with market share rising from 6.2% to 7.7%. In Sweden, Tesla’s January 2025 sales were 394 units (7.1% market share), rising to 512 units (7.3% market share) in January 2026, a 30% increase. Spain’s situation was similar to Italy, with sales of 269 units (4.7% market share) in January 2025, increasing to 458 units (6.4% market share) in January 2026, a 70% growth.

Overall, Tesla’s sales across 12 European countries in January 2026 decreased from 6,925 units (5.5% market share) in January 2025 to 5,351 units (4% market share), a 23% year-over-year decline.
