Apple Inc. (US: AAPL) has delayed the release of its long-anticipated smart home display device due to development delays of the new Siri. The company currently plans to launch around September, when the new Siri is expected to be fully developed.

Reports indicate that the device, code-named J490, was initially scheduled for release in spring 2025 but was postponed to complete the development of the new Siri. Apple had also planned to release it this month, hoping the new Siri would be ready. However, due to further delays in Siri, Apple has once again postponed the launch of this smart home device.

Siri at the Core of Apple’s AI Strategy

Siri is at the heart of Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, with many future products relying on this technology. However, Apple has delayed some features that have been promised for a long time, some of which were shown to consumers over two years ago.

This display device resembles a square iPad, which can be mounted on a hemispherical speaker base or installed on a wall mount, aiming to become the AI hub of the home. Its user interface features a set of circular app icons arranged similarly to the main screen of the Apple Watch. A key feature is facial recognition, which can identify users as they approach the device. With this information, the product can display personalized content such as schedules, reminders, memos, music, and news preferences.

Developing a Series of New AI Products, Launch Planned After New Siri Debuts

Additionally, Apple is developing a series of other AI products, including a pendant-style device with a camera in AirPods and smart glasses, all scheduled to be released after the new Siri launches.

Reports suggest that Apple aims to have all new Siri features ready by September, coinciding with the release of the iPhone 18 Pro. The upgraded Siri will be able to access users’ personal data to better respond to queries. Apple is also redesigning Siri’s interface and underlying AI models to make Siri more like a modern conversational robot.
