International oil prices break $100, WTI main contract surges nearly 20% (Updated)
Caixin March 9 — International oil prices surged rapidly after opening, breaking through the $100 mark for the first time since the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022. As of 8:40 a.m. Beijing time, U.S. WTI crude oil futures main contract rose by 18.71%, trading at $107.90 per barrel; UK Brent crude oil prices increased by 17.24%, trading at $108.67 per barrel.
Subsequently, the gains slightly retreated. By 5:00 p.m. Beijing time, the U.S. WTI crude oil futures main contract’s increase had narrowed to 14.46%, at $104.04 per barrel; UK Brent crude oil prices retreated to a 15.88% increase, trading at $107.41 per barrel.
