Deep Tide TechFlow News, March 10 — According to Jinshi Data, a senior U.S. Department of Defense official said that after Anthropic legally challenged the unprecedented designation of the company as a supply chain risk by the U.S. government, hopes for resuming negotiations to use its AI tools for military purposes are slim. Deputy Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael stated on Monday that Anthropic’s lawsuit is “an expected response,” and that the company’s attempt to overturn this supply chain risk designation will not change the Pentagon’s decision. In an interview, Michael said, “I believe there is no way to resolve this issue in this manner.” Just hours before Michael made these comments, Anthropic filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent the Pentagon and other agencies from listing it as a U.S. supply chain threat and from obtaining government contracts. In court documents earlier on Monday, Anthropic claimed that these actions violate the company’s rights to free speech and due process under the U.S. Constitution.
