US Helicopter Touches Down at Okinawa Baseball Field During Practice
(MENAFN) A U.S. military helicopter conducted an unexpected landing on a baseball field in Okinawa, Japan, on Friday evening while a youth team was practicing, according to reports.
Officials from the First Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa explained on Saturday that a warning indicator had activated during routine training, necessitating the precautionary landing in Nago, Okinawa Prefecture. No injuries occurred, and the helicopter sustained no damage.
The UH-1 aircraft touched down at 8:16 p.m. local time and remained on the field until after 10:40 p.m., when inspections were completed and it returned to the U.S. Marine Corps Futenma Air Station in Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, as stated by reports.
The Japanese Defense Ministry’s Okinawa bureau, citing U.S. authorities, confirmed that the helicopter was not carrying hazardous materials or weapons.
