Trump Vows to Prioritize Voter ID Bill, Crypto 'Clarity Act' Approval Path Faces New Uncertainties
Recently, U.S. President Trump issued a threat at the Florida Republican Party Conference, declaring that he will refuse to sign any other legislation until the Voter Identification Bill is passed by Congress.
His statement also casts a shadow over the legislative process of the pending Cryptocurrency Market Transparency Act (Clarity Act).
Reports indicate that, while busy responding to the US-Iran conflict, Trump has also dedicated significant effort to the legislation of the Save America Act (SAVE America Act).
The bill proposes strict identity verification, citizen identification, and mail-in ballot restrictions, aiming to raise voting thresholds, which is expected to lead to a decrease in voter turnout.
Trump bluntly stated that this bill is a key bargaining chip to ensure the Republican Party wins the midterm elections and even maintains long-term dominance. If the midterms are won, it would establish the Republican Party’s political dominance for the next half-century.
However, Democrats criticize this move as an attempt to suppress voters, and the bill faces strong resistance in the Senate. Confronted with doubts and procedural difficulties, Trump remains resolute, directly stating, “I won’t sign anything until it gets approved.”
But the use of this political leverage has caused anxiety within the cryptocurrency industry. Industry stakeholders are hopeful that in the coming months, the Digital Asset Market Transparency Act (the Clarity Act) will be passed in the Senate.
Currently, the bill has cleared the Senate Agriculture Committee, and industry insiders are working hard to gain approval from the Banking Committee, aiming to send it to the President for signature as soon as possible.
Overall, although Trump has prioritized digital asset regulation, his tough “refusal to sign” threat suggests that even if the crypto bill passes Congress, it could be stalled by the Voter ID Bill.
This situation will undoubtedly test Trump’s resolve to refuse signing other bills and has drawn close attention to how he will balance advancing the crypto agenda with fulfilling election promises.
