Apple (US: AAPL) produces approximately 220 to 230 million iPhones worldwide each year, with a rapid increase in production share in India. Last year, Apple’s iPhone production in India grew by about 53%, accounting for a quarter of its flagship device global output.

Under Prime Minister Modi’s policy aimed at turning India into a global manufacturing hub, Apple has accelerated its expansion in India in recent years. Bloomberg cited sources saying that Apple plans to assemble about 55 million iPhones in India in 2025, up from 36 million in the previous year.

Last year, due to U.S. tariffs, Apple mainly produced iPhones in China. The tariffs forced Apple and its suppliers to shift more devices intended for the U.S. market to other manufacturing locations, with India becoming a significant highlight.

Currently, Apple assembles all the latest iPhone 17 series models in India. The increase in local capacity underscores Apple’s long-term supply chain strategy to establish a second major iPhone manufacturing base to meet global demand. Apple is deepening and expanding partnerships with local suppliers to produce components including lithium-ion batteries, watches, phone cases, and accessories like AirPods.

Additionally, Apple is working to expand its market share in India, where sales have already exceeded $9 billion. The company is preparing to launch Apple Pay in India this year. Its retail network now includes six stores, highlighting the growing importance of India as both a manufacturing hub and a rapidly expanding consumer market.
