U.S. military helicopter makes emergency landing at a baseball stadium in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan; local officials submit a written protest
Nago City Mayor Hashimoto Takuhiro of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, met with Murai Masaru, Director of the Okinawa Defense Bureau of the Ministry of Defense, at the city hall to discuss the emergency landing of a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter on the baseball field in the city on the evening of the 6th, and handed over a protest document. Hashimoto Takuhiro stated that even a small mistake could lead to a major disaster involving human lives and cannot be ignored. He demanded thorough measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again. At the time of the incident, a youth baseball team was training on the field. Hashimoto also requested that the U.S. military avoid flying over residential areas and around schools. Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki said that the prefectural government plans to lodge a formal protest with the U.S. side regarding the incident. (CCTV News)
