Iran states it will not trust any promises from the United States, deploys hypersonic missiles, and "military operations enter a new phase"
11th day of U.S.-Iran military strikes, both sides continue to escalate conflicts, making diplomatic resolution prospects even more bleak. Iran refuses any negotiations, claims to hold the initiative in the war, and has used hypersonic missiles to push military actions into a “new phase”; the U.S. threatens to carry out the “highest intensity” strikes in this conflict while quietly easing sanctions on Russian oil to suppress prices; the international community generally worries about losing control, but disagreements are clear, leaving limited room for diplomatic mediation.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bagheri clearly stated that Iran does not trust any promises made by the U.S. According to CCTV News, Bagheri pointed out that Iran and the U.S. have held two rounds of talks in the past year or two, but each time the U.S. launched attacks during negotiations. He said Iran’s current main focus is on maintaining national sovereignty and territorial security. Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian also stated in an interview with U.S. media that restarting dialogue or negotiations with the U.S. is not on Iran’s agenda.
Against this backdrop, the conflict is spilling over in multiple directions. The U.S. has begun easing sanctions on Russian oil to cope with energy market pressures; according to Xinhua, Russian Presidential Aide Ulyanov said that President Putin and U.S. President Trump had a phone call, during which Putin “expressed several ideas” on resolving the “Iran conflict” through political and diplomatic means; the UK, Germany, and Italy are urgently consulting on ensuring the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Reports indicate that the conflict has so far caused over 1,800 deaths, with global energy markets under continued pressure.
Iran: Refuses negotiations, claims to hold the initiative
Iran has responded to all signals for negotiations with a tough stance. According to Xinhua, Iran’s Islamic Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani stated that Iran “absolutely does not seek a ceasefire” and must resolutely retaliate against “aggressors.” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharib Abadi said that Iran’s current priority is “decisive defense,” and “the cessation of war is in Iran’s hands.”
Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson Naini said Iran has destroyed nearly 10 advanced U.S. radars and shot down numerous drones. He also warned that in the event of attacks on Iran, “enemy forces and their allies” will not be allowed to export oil from the region. According to Xinhua, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani stated that as long as the U.S. and Israel’s military strikes continue, the security of the Strait of Hormuz cannot be restored.
In response to Trump’s threat to “strike Iran 20 times harder,” Larijani responded on social media, “The Iranian people do not fear your hollow threats. Forces stronger than you have failed to destroy the Iranian nation.” Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi also posted, “Anyone who attempts to annihilate Iran knows nothing of history. Invaders come and go, but Iran remains standing.”
Iranian military: Uses hypersonic missiles in 34th operation against U.S. and Israel
According to CCTV News, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement on the 10th local time, detailing the “Real Commitment 4” 34th operation. The statement said Iran launched multiple types of missiles, including “Qader,” “Emad,” and “Fateh,” and used the “Habar” hypersonic missile, claiming this move has “brought military actions against the U.S. and Israel into a new phase.”
The Revolutionary Guard said this operation involved precise-guided missiles carrying over 1 ton of warheads targeting U.S. and Israeli military bases and related military support facilities. The statement specifically mentioned that the Aerospace Force of the Revolutionary Guard launched missile and drone strikes against U.S. military bases in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Bahrain; heavy missile strikes also targeted Israel’s Ramate David Air Force Base, Haifa civilian airport, and missile launch sites east of Tel Aviv in Bnei Beraq. The statement added that Iran’s targets for attacking U.S. and Israeli military resources and infrastructure are ten times the number of enemy-held targets.
Meanwhile, CCTV News reports that Iran’s intelligence agencies have arrested 30 individuals involved in espionage activities for the U.S. and Israel, including a foreign citizen suspected of passing sensitive security information to two “Persian Gulf countries.” The relevant information has been transferred to both the U.S. and Israel.
U.S. Defense Secretary: No comment on war stage, will launch “highest intensity” strikes against Iran
According to Xinhua, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated at a Pentagon briefing on the 10th that today will be the “highest intensity” day of military strikes, deploying the largest number of fighters and bombers, and using the most precise and high-quality intelligence to target Iran. He also said that in the past 24 hours, Iran’s missile launches have hit a new low.
Austin reaffirmed the three main objectives of the U.S.-Israel joint military operation: destroy Iran’s missile storage, launch, and manufacturing capabilities; destroy Iran’s navy; and permanently deprive Iran of the right to possess nuclear weapons. Trump claimed on March 9 in Miami that U.S. forces had struck over 5,000 Iranian targets, sank 51 Iranian ships, and destroyed over 90% of Iran’s missile launchers and over 80% of drone launchers.
Regarding the direction of the war, Trump and Austin have sent different signals. Trump said the conflict “will end soon” and that conditional negotiations with Iran “are possible”; Austin, however, clearly stated he has no authority to comment on the war’s stage, saying “he (Trump) can control the pace, he is the ultimate decision-maker.” Reports indicate that several advisors have recently privately urged Trump to find ways to exit the Iran conflict quickly, worried about soaring oil prices and long-term political backlash.
Israel: Unwavering stance, targeting the Islamic Republic
Israel’s war objectives differ markedly from those of the U.S. According to reports, Prime Minister Netanyahu publicly stated he hopes the Iranian people will overthrow the Islamic Republic, “ultimately depending on them” when to end the war. Their strategic goal is not only to eliminate Iran’s top leadership or weaken the government but to create conditions for the complete end of the Islamic Republic’s rule.
On the 10th, the Israeli military announced it had bombed a Revolutionary Guard “drone headquarters” and destroyed a ballistic missile launch site in western Iran, killing all personnel on site, and said it would continue dismantling Iran’s ballistic missile facilities in the west. IDF spokesperson Efi Duvlin said that since launching military operations against Iran, the Israeli military has killed “about 1,900 Iranian soldiers and commanders.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that Israel “does not seek an endless war” and will coordinate with Washington to decide when to end hostilities, but refused to speculate on specific timelines.
International community: Energy security at risk, diplomatic efforts limited
The Strait of Hormuz situation has caused high tension in global energy markets.
A UK government statement on Tuesday showed that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni agreed in a call on Monday that ensuring the safe passage of the Strait of Hormuz is “crucial,” and they will closely cooperate in the coming days to “jointly respond to Iran’s threats.”
France’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that the G7 needs to gather relevant data to assess whether to activate strategic reserves. G7 senior officials on Tuesday requested the International Energy Agency (IEA) to update energy reserve data and “study the details we can control when deciding to use reserves.”
The IEA Executive Director stated in a release that the IEA will hold a “special meeting” later Tuesday to decide whether to activate emergency oil reserves. G7 member countries hold over 1.2 billion barrels of public emergency oil reserves.
The IEA’s executive director also said a “special meeting” will be convened to consider releasing emergency oil stocks. Reports indicate that G7 countries currently hold more than 1.2 billion barrels of emergency oil reserves.
Meanwhile, reports say the Trump administration has begun easing sanctions on Russian oil, granting India a 30-day exemption to purchase Russian oil en route, seen as an emergency move to curb rising oil prices.
Russia: Calls with Iran, supports diplomatic resolution
According to CCTV News, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian on Tuesday, reporting that the regional situation has sharply worsened due to U.S. and Israel’s “baseless aggression” against Iran. Lavrov reiterated Russia’s principled stance, supporting a quick de-escalation and returning to a political and diplomatic resolution. Russia expressed willingness to assist and emphasized that the mediation process must consider Iran’s and regional neighbors’ security interests.
Russian Presidential Aide Ulyanov disclosed that Putin and Trump discussed several ideas on resolving the conflict through political and diplomatic channels during a call on the 9th, including convening a communication mechanism involving Gulf leaders, Iranian President Raisi, and other regional leaders. Xinhua noted this was the first direct call between the Russian and U.S. heads of state since the military actions launched on February 28.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Australia will provide an E-7A early warning aircraft and advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles to the UAE.
