Ford has recalled over 7.3 million vehicles in the U.S. since the beginning of the year, nearly three times the total of all other brands combined.
IT Home March 9 News, according to foreign media Carscoops today reported, only two months into 2026, Ford is already leading a somewhat “embarrassing” list — the recall rankings. As of March 3, 2026, Ford has recalled over 7.3 million vehicles, far surpassing all other automakers.
According to IT Home, in 2025, Ford issued recalls almost throughout the entire year, with a total of over 150 recall actions involving approximately 12.92 million vehicles, setting a record. In comparison, Toyota and Lexus combined recalled about 3.22 million vehicles last year, while Stellantis recalled about 2.77 million.
In just two months of 2026, the recall count for Ford and its Lincoln brand has already reached 56.6% of last year’s total of 12.92 million vehicles. At this pace, Ford is expected to continue defending its title as the top recall issuer in the U.S.
Industry statistics show that since January this year, Ford accounts for about 28% of all recall actions, significantly higher than other automakers. The second place is Toyota, with about 8%, having issued only 5 recalls this year. Ford has already reached 17 recalls.
The report mentions that Ford’s number of recalls is roughly nearly three times that of its closest competitors. Hyundai also accounts for about 8%, and General Motors about 7%.
So far, the automotive industry in 2026 has issued a total of 61 recalls, with Ford alone accounting for 17. Even considering Ford’s recent history, occupying such a high proportion at the start of the year is quite rare.
Part of the reason is the scale of sales. Ford sells a large number of pickups and SUVs in North America. When popular models have issues, it can easily lead to large-scale recalls involving millions of vehicles. For example, the best-selling F-150 model, even with minor problems, can quickly expand its impact.
IT Home learned from the report that Ford has recalled millions of vehicles due to various issues, some involving software problems, others related to safety systems or parts not functioning as expected.
Last week, there was also news that about 4.3 million Ford vehicles were recalled due to trailer software issues, and the hybrid Escape was recalled for the third time due to battery problems. Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that the company is working to improve product quality, but these efforts may take some time to reflect in recall data.
As of now, the entire U.S. automotive industry’s recalls in 2026 have involved over 10 million vehicles. Ford alone accounts for nearly three-quarters of that, meaning the number of vehicles recalled by Ford is already close to three times the total of all other automakers combined.
