(MENAFN- Khaama Press) ** UNICEF says it treated 610,000 severely malnourished children in Afghanistan last year as millions remain at risk amid worsening food insecurity.**

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says it treated 610,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Afghanistan during the past year.

In a message on Monday, UNICEF said that together with its partners it screened 11.8 million children for malnutrition treatment across the country in 2025.

The agency stressed that it plans to provide health and nutrition services to one million children suffering from acute malnutrition during the current year.

According to reports by UN agencies, more than three million children in Afghanistan are currently suffering from malnutrition.

Humanitarian organizations warn that Afghanistan is facing one of the world’s most severe food and nutrition crises, driven by poverty, drought, and economic collapse.

Children are among the most vulnerable, with limited access to healthcare, food, and basic services worsening the risk of malnutrition in many provinces.

Aid agencies say sustained international support and expanded nutrition programs are essential to prevent further deterioration and protect millions of Afghan children.
