Ripple plans to acquire BC Payments to obtain an Australian financial services license.
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Ripple announced on Tuesday its plan to acquire BC Payments to obtain an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL). If approved, this license will allow Ripple to directly integrate its payment infrastructure into the Australian regulatory system, enabling full-cycle management of cross-border transactions under a single platform, including compliance review, foreign exchange conversion, and final settlement.
Fiona Murray, Managing Director of Ripple Asia-Pacific, stated that Australia is a core market for Ripple, and this license will significantly enhance its scalability. Data shows that Ripple’s payment volume in the Asia-Pacific region nearly doubled by 2025, and the company has already partnered with several local institutions such as Independent Reserve. Industry analysts believe this move could serve as a template for mainstream financial adoption of blockchain technology, especially in high-friction areas like cross-border settlements. Additionally, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently expressed his strong belief that future crypto companies could reach a market value of trillions of dollars. (Decrypt)
