According to foreign reports, Standard Chartered (02888) Private Banking Global Head and Head of Wealth Management and Retail Banking for Greater China and North Asia, Raymond Ang, plans to expand the Singapore private banking team by hiring up to 50 relationship managers to attract wealthy Chinese clients.

Singapore remains an important offshore banking hub for Chinese high-net-worth individuals, especially those from northern and western China.

However, reports also indicate that recent money laundering investigations have led to stricter scrutiny of wealth sources in Singapore, prompting some Chinese clients to turn to Middle Eastern countries where opening accounts and establishing family offices is relatively easier.
