Cypherpunk Technologies (Nasdaq: CYPH) — an investment company specializing in digital assets with a focus on privacy, announced an investment of $5 million in Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL). The deal marks the company's first tech investment outside of direct $ZEC ownership. ZODL is a startup developing infrastructure and wallets for Zcash, founded by former Electric Coin Company CEO Josh Swihart. Electric Coin Company is the original developer of the Zcash protocol. Swihart and several former team members joined the new organization to continue creating tools for the privacy-focused cryptocurrency network. Previously, the group developed Zashi — a simple mobile wallet for Zcash users. The product has now been renamed Zodl. Zashi gained attention in 2025 after helping to expand the use of the protected Orchard pool. Over the course of that year, the volume $ZEC in the pool increased from about 1 million to nearly 4 million coins. Now, ZODL owns the wallet technology and related intellectual property. The organization plans to continue improving the app and participate in the development of the Zcash protocol.
