University Shooting in Virginia, USA Leaves 2 Dead and 2 Injured; Shooter Previously Convicted on Terrorism-Related Charges

On March 12th, local time, CCTV reporters learned that a shooting incident occurred at Old Dominion University in Virginia, resulting in 1 death and 2 injuries. The shooter is also deceased.

Law enforcement sources confirmed the shooter as Muhammad Bailer Jalo, a former member of the Virginia National Guard. Jalo admitted in 2016 to attempting to provide material support to the extremist organization ISIS, was sentenced to 11 years in prison, and was released early in December 2024.

Police stated that two injured individuals were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. All victims are connected to the university. U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driesscol said that two of the injured are Army personnel. Authorities also confirmed that there is no ongoing threat on campus.

Following the incident, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI dispatched personnel to assist with the investigation. The university subsequently announced that classes for the day were suspended.
