U.S. President Trump delivered a speech at the White House in Washington on Monday, once again criticizing current Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, stating that the central bank should “immediately” cut interest rates.

Trump said the Fed should hold a special meeting to lower rates, asking, “Is there a better time to cut than now?”

Trump also mentioned that the Fed is about to welcome a “very outstanding new leader,” praising the nomination of Kevin Warsh as the new Fed Chair.

The Federal Reserve will hold back-to-back policy meetings starting Tuesday, with the decision expected to be announced around 2 a.m. Hong Kong time on Thursday. Market expectations are that the federal funds rate target range will remain between 3.5% and 3.75%.
