Musk Also Building "AI Analyst": xAI Aggressively Hiring Financial Experts to Train Grok

xAI, which is currently in a “rebuilding” phase, seems to have already identified financial agents as one of its next development priorities, attempting to compete with rivals like Anthropic and OpenAI for a share of the market.

As of press time, xAI has posted at least 20 job openings on its official website for experts in finance-related fields, including securities research, macroeconomic research, corporate finance, quantitative trading, and cryptocurrencies. These experts are expected to provide a series of data to “teach” Grok AI how to perform financial modeling and handle specific tasks across various financial subfields.

For example, the “Securities Research Expert” position description states, “With deep expertise in capital markets, fundamental analysis, financial modeling, valuation, and investment research, you will create a simulated real-world training environment, providing high-quality model evaluation, accurate data annotation, and detailed inputs to train and optimize our AI models.”

In simple terms, this role mainly involves providing training materials for AI to learn from, aiming to improve its ability to write stock research reports. xAI requires applicants to have at least 2 years of buy-side or sell-side equity research experience and clear industry coverage responsibilities.

Similarly, the “Crypto Market Expert” role also requires annotating, commenting, evaluating, and applying expert reasoning across text, speech, and video multimodal data to support model training and benchmarking.

According to a report by Cailian Press last week, with 9 of the “11 Musk co-founders” of xAI having left, the world’s richest man admitted that xAI is in a state of reconstruction. He also recruited two senior employees from the well-known AI programming company Cursor last week, giving a preliminary glimpse of the company’s next direction.

Amid growing concerns over AI investment bubbles, top developers are increasingly focusing on expanding into specialized fields, with the financial sector—where willingness and ability to pay are both high—becoming a “battlefield.” Both Anthropic and OpenAI have released tools aimed at simplifying financial tasks such as market analysis and research reports, which has even triggered panic selling among traditional software vendors.

For xAI, establishing revenue streams is also urgent. Although the company was valued at $250 billion when it merged with SpaceX last month, most of xAI’s current income comes from related transactions involving Musk’s other ventures, including Tesla and SpaceX.

Returning to the main topic, industry elites applying for xAI’s “Financial Expert” position will face leadership from a high school graduate.

It is reported that Diego Pasini is in charge of training data at xAI. Records show that Pasini obtained his high school diploma in 2023 before enrolling at the University of Pennsylvania to study computer science and economics. He joined the company after winning xAI’s “Hackathon” in January 2025.

At a staff meeting last month, Pasini mentioned that one of the bottlenecks in developing Grok is training data. Currently, Grok largely relies on data from social network X.
