South Korean boy band BTS held a concert titled “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG” at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul yesterday with all 7 members present. According to Seoul city government statistics, by 8 p.m. that evening, approximately 40,000 to 42,000 people had gathered around Gwanghwamun; police estimates were about 42,000. However, police predicted a maximum of 260,000 people could gather, showing a significant discrepancy with the actual audience numbers.

According to Yonhap News Agency, BTS returned to the stage after 3 years and 9 months since their concert “Yet to Come in BUSAN” held in Busan in October 2022. Fans from around the world, known as “ARMY,” watched the event near Gwanghwamun.

On the day of the concert, BTS performed several hit songs including “Butter,” “Dynamite,” and “MIC Drop.” They also performed for the first time the title track “SWIM” from their fifth full album “ARIRANG,” released the day before, as well as “Body to Body.” The concert was live-streamed on the streaming platform Netflix.

“ARIRANG” Achieves Record Sales of 3.98 Million Copies in One Day

In addition, “ARIRANG” sold 3.98 million copies in just one day after release. Their fourth full album “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7,” released in February 2020, set a record for the highest first-week sales for a BTS album. The fifth full album broke that record after only one day on sale.

Recently, the South Korean government decided to raise the terror alert level in Jongno District and Jung District from Level 1 “Attention” to Level 2 “Caution,” with the alert issued from midnight on the 19th to midnight on the 21st. Authorities deployed 15,000 personnel for security, with reports indicating approximately 6,700 police officers were involved.
