Cuba Experiences Two Nationwide Blackouts in One Week

The Cuban Power Union stated that the national power system was completely shut down around 6 p.m. local time on Saturday evening. Authorities did not explain the cause of the blackout, marking the second nationwide power outage within a week.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines said that restoration efforts have been initiated.

Due to U.S. sanctions, Cuba has long struggled to import fuel and repair equipment for its severely aging power plants, leading to a tight national power supply.
