National Healthcare Security Administration: World's First Brain-Computer Interface Innovative Product Receives Healthcare Insurance Code
CITIC Securities Finance APP has learned that on March 22, the National Healthcare Security Administration announced that on March 13, 2026, the world’s first invasive brain-computer interface medical device was officially approved for market launch. On March 15, the National Healthcare Security Administration proactively coordinated and provided services to assign a medical insurance code for this product, successfully bridging the critical gap from approval to clinical application for innovative products. This marks the brain-computer interface industry moving from a “planning blueprint” to a “fast-track implementation.”
The National Healthcare Security Administration has always firmly supported the high-quality development of innovative drugs and medical devices. In this cutting-edge field of brain-computer interfaces, the healthcare authorities have proactively planned and taken early action, initiating a series of enabling measures in advance. In March 2025, they issued guidelines for the approval of pricing projects for neurological medical services, specifically establishing pricing items related to invasive and non-invasive brain-computer interfaces, facilitating fee channels for new technologies to enter clinical use. In September of the same year, they publicly solicited information on innovative medical consumables such as brain-computer interfaces and surgical robots, and began early classification research for product coding, continuously improving the medical consumables classification and coding system for healthcare insurance. The proactive policy measures accelerate the landing of technological innovations, providing strong support.
