Yunnan Pork Prices Decline in March
This article is reprinted from Kunming Daily
News report by Yang Guanrong: On March 17, information from the Yunnan Provincial Animal Husbandry Station showed that in January this year, the average price of pigs in Yunnan stopped falling and began to rise; in February, the prices of piglets and live pigs continued to increase. Data from the direct connection and reporting system for farms in February, monitoring 20 provincial-level wholesale markets and collection points in Yunnan, indicated that out of 18 monitored indicators, except for piglet and live cattle prices which were below the national average, all other indicators were above the national average.
In February, nationwide, the average prices of piglets and pork continued to rise, with month-on-month increases of 10.32% and 1.93%, respectively, while the average price of live pigs decreased by 1.91%. In Yunnan Province, the prices of piglets, live pigs, and pork all showed upward trends, with piglet prices at 25.49 yuan/kg, up 5.07% month-on-month; live pig prices at 13.24 yuan/kg, up 0.84%; and pork at 26.09 yuan/kg, up 1.28%.
In March, the price of live pigs fell again, showing a relatively low trend. According to China Swine Web, on March 17, the price of live pigs (external three-way cross) in Yunnan was 10.24 yuan/kg; for internal three-way cross pigs, 10.8 yuan/kg; and for miscellaneous pigs, 10 yuan/kg. The pig-to-grain ratio was 4.31:1.
The change in live pig prices has not affected the pork market in Kunming, where fresh pork prices remain stable. On March 17, retail prices for pork front leg, back leg, and pork belly ranged from 21 yuan/kg to 29 yuan/kg.
