Advocacy groups are calling on Trump to intervene in the retrial of Roman Storm.

Cryptocurrency and blockchain organizations — more than 65 companies and advocacy groups — have called on President America Donald Trump to intervene as federal prosecutors are reportedly preparing to retry Roman Storm, co-founder of Tornado Cash.

In the letter sent to Trump on Thursday, organizations such as the Solana Policy Institute, Blockchain Association, and DeFi Education Fund urged the White House to clarify digital asset tax policy, protect DeFi, and request that the SEC and CFTC establish a more transparent regulatory framework.

Notably, they suggested that Trump urge the Department of Justice to “drop all charges” against Storm, arguing that his contribution to Tornado Cash was merely publishing open-source code, not financial crime. Storm had previously been convicted of operating an unlicensed money transfer service, although the jury did not find him involved in money laundering or violating sanctions. The next meeting is scheduled to take place on January 22.
