The data center overheating caused the CME Group to suspend trading for more than 10 hours, and the backup data center was not activated.
On November 29, local time, from the evening of November 27 to the morning of the 28th, a key data center used by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group was suspended for over 10 hours due to overheating. It is reported that this key data center is located in Aurora, a suburb west of Chicago, where the temperature rose to nearly 49 degrees Celsius after a failure of the air conditioning equipment, exceeding the highest temperature limit set by the U.S. industry by about 48%, leading to the service interruption. It is currently unclear why the CME did not activate the backup data center in the New York area. Some informed sources speculate that it may be due to the insufficient technical infrastructure at the backup data center for large traders quoted by the CME, who are therefore more willing to wait for the failure in Aurora to end.
