Gate News Report, March 10 — A French couple was attacked by three masked robbers posing as police officers at their home in Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt, western Paris. The assailants forced them to transfer approximately €900,000 (about $1 million) worth of Bitcoin. After the victims were bound and injured, the robbers fled in a white van. The case has been handed over to the Versailles Prosecutor’s Office for investigation, with no arrests reported yet.
This incident is the latest example of “wrench attacks” in the cryptocurrency space in recent years—where violence or threats are used to force holders to surrender digital assets. According to cybersecurity platform CertiK, such attacks increased by 75% globally in 2025, totaling 72 incidents, with France leading at 19 cases. Since the beginning of this year, France has experienced multiple kidnappings and home invasions targeting crypto industry professionals.
