Elon Musk plans to build a superfactory for AI chips

Goldfinch Finance reports that on March 24, Elon Musk announced that Tesla and SpaceX will build a large-scale chip factory in Austin to meet the surging demand for artificial intelligence.
The facility, called “Terafab,” will include two wafer fabs: one for Tesla’s AI business (cars, robots) and another for SpaceX’s space-based data centers. Musk stated that current suppliers cannot meet future demands.
His goal is for the factory to produce 1 terawatt of computing power annually, roughly twice the current total computing capacity in the United States.
The project timeline has not yet been announced, and there are execution risks, but this highlights the growing urgency for companies to develop independent chip manufacturing.
