Yesterday, I saw that you all posted on Twitter about Ctrip being under investigation. I also checked today and confirmed that it is indeed the case. The original text is: On January 14th, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced that after preliminary investigations, based on the Anti-Monopoly Law, Ctrip Group Co., Ltd. is under investigation for suspected abuse of market dominance and monopolistic behavior.
I remembered that the train ticket I bought for Hong Kong this time was purchased on Ctrip. When I paid, I noticed the price was 47 yuan higher than the price on 12306. After paying, I realized that the service included a安心退改 (peace of mind change and refund) service. I thought this service would fully waive the change and refund fees when I canceled the ticket, but it wasn't. When I canceled, I was still charged a 10% fee, and I didn't get a full refund. I had no way to complain, so I just accepted the loss. I won't use Ctrip again next time.
I think many people use Ctrip just to grab tickets near the aisle. I haven't used Ctrip for hotel bookings. They are partnered with the Cambodia Tourism Bureau, and I know that Southeast Asia is unsafe. Many people going to Southeast Asia have been trafficked, so I don't dare to use Ctrip to book hotels, fearing personal information leaks.
It would be good to investigate Ctrip and see what they have been doing all these years.
