People’s Financial News, March 12 — In an explanatory speech after the Security Council vote on the Middle East situation resolution draft, Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong stated that the resolution draft proposed by Russia reaffirms the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, urges all parties to immediately cease military actions, condemns all attacks against civilians and civilian facilities, and encourages a return to diplomatic negotiations. China expressed its support and welcomed the draft, but also expressed disappointment and regret that the resolution was not adopted.

On the same day, the Security Council voted on two draft resolutions concerning the current military conflicts in the Middle East. The resolution proposed by Russia urges all parties to immediately stop military actions in the Middle East and other regions to prevent further escalation; condemns all attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure; and calls on all parties to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law and other international laws to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. The draft was rejected with a vote of 4 in favor, 2 against, and 9 abstentions. Russia, China, Pakistan, and Somalia voted in favor; the United States and Latvia voted against. (CCTV News)
