Vitalik Buterin argues that having “perfect DeFi” is not enough. In a world of surveillance, wars, and corporate pressure, Ethereum has not yet become a true tool for protecting people — unlike technologies such as Starlink or Signal.
He proposes a new focus: “refuge technologies” — digital spaces with no owner, where rules and agreements exist without anyone’s permission.
