Odaily News The data released by the U.S. government on Tuesday showed that the number of Americans receiving unemployment benefits significantly increased from mid-September to mid-October, indicating that the unemployment rate in October may remain high amid an uncertain economic environment that is affecting companies' hiring willingness. A Department of Labor spokesperson stated, “Technical issues led to some data being released prematurely,” and added, “We are currently correcting this issue, and the complete data series will be released before the close of business on November 20, 2025.” The data showed that for the week ending October 18, the number of people continuing to receive unemployment benefits after the initial claim (a metric viewed as a proxy for hiring conditions) rose by 10,000, seasonally adjusted, to 1.957 million. The number of continuing claims surged compared to 1.916 million for the week ending September 13. (Jin10)
