US authorities oppose former FTX executive's request to withdraw guilty protocol
Golden Finance reported that the U.S. Attorney’s Office opposed former FTX Digital Markets co-CEO Ryan Salame’s request to withdraw his guilty plea protocol. Salame pleaded guilty to financial irregularities in the election and was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. His lawyer applied to withdraw the protocol, claiming that the prosecutor had hinted during negotiations that they would not investigate Salame’s partner Michelle Bond. However, on August 22, authorities brought new charges against Bond, accusing her of election finance violations. Salame advocates his own guilt because the government promised not to investigate BOND. The document states that this accusation is “clearly erroneous”. Salame also faces a fine and compensation of about $6 million. Salame is scheduled to be imprisoned on October 13th, and if the court accepts his request for withdrawal, he may face a comprehensive criminal trial. In the trial of Sam ‘SBF’ Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of FTX, Salame did not testify, while former FTX executives Nishad Singh and Gary Wang have pleaded guilty and testified. Bankman-Fried has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, and Ellison’s sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.
