Japan urges India to provide temporary tariff exemption for steel

As the world’s second largest crude steel producer, India launched an investigation last December to consider whether to impose temporary tariffs (locally known as safeguard duties) to restrict steel imports. The Indian Minister of Steel confirmed last month that the investigation is ongoing. “Japan’s export of steel products is to meet India’s demand for high-performance steel,” a Japanese delegation said in the report.
