According to Stocktwits, Amazon deployed 29 additional satellites early Thursday via a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, bringing its Amazon Leo constellation to 396 satellites. The deployment completes the network infrastructure required for the company's commercial space-based internet service rollout later this year.
"We've completed enough launches for initial service this year," Chris Weber, vice president of business and product for Amazon Leo, stated on X. Amazon Leo aims to compete with SpaceX's established Starlink network, which currently operates roughly 10,000 satellites serving over 12 million global subscribers. Future satellite missions will transition to next-generation rockets including ULA's Vulcan and Blue Origin's New Glenn.
