AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) Jumps 4% Premarket on Monday as Analyst Questions Ability to Match Starlink D2D

ASTS2.45%
According to analyst Tim Farrar, shares of AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) rose over 4% in premarket trading on Monday (July 28) even as Farrar questioned whether the company can close the gap with Starlink in the direct-to-device race. Farrar said AST's low-band constellation lacks the spectrum and capacity to offer a service comparable to Starlink Mobile V2 and may arrive "too little, too late." He views direct-to-device as a fallback service in remote areas rather than a replacement for terrestrial wireless networks, and estimates Starlink Mobile V2 wholesale capacity could cost less than $2 per gigabyte. Separately, AST raised $1 billion through convertible notes earlier this month, with proceeds potentially supporting launch-related partnerships or acquisitions to vertically integrate its business.
