As of early July, Berkshire Hathaway's Class B shares have declined 1.8% year-to-date, trailing the S&P 500's 10.7% gain by 12.4 percentage points, according to market data. When including dividend returns, the underperformance widens to 13.1 percentage points, with the S&P 500 posting a total return of 11.4%.

This marks the second consecutive year the company has underperformed the broader market. In 2025, Berkshire shares lagged the S&P 500 by approximately 5.5% excluding dividends, or 7 percentage points when dividends are included.
