Cardano Transfers Core Development to Independent Firms from August

ADA2.75%

Input Output will transfer development of six core Cardano software components to independent specialist firms from August, continuing into 2027. The transition includes the Haskell node, Plutus smart-contract platform, Daedalus wallet, Hydra layer-2 system, Mithril protocol, and developer relations. Charles Hoskinson, Input Output's chief executive and Cardano founder, described the move as the final stage of the Voltaire era's full decentralization, with development administered through the community organization Intersect.

Input Output Transfers Six Core Components from August

The six components represent the operational machinery of the Cardano network. The Haskell node validates blocks and maintains chain consensus. Plutus serves as the platform for writing Cardano smart contracts. Daedalus functions as the desktop wallet. Hydra operates as the layer-2 system designed to increase throughput. Mithril is a stake-based signature protocol that accelerates node syncing.

Input Output's engineering roadmap designates the program as "Organizational Decentralization: FY 26-27", spanning March 2026 to February 2027. The company stated it will name each partner "as agreements are finalized" and noted that timelines and product features are "not final or guaranteed".

Teragone Solutions and VacuumLabs Lead Partner Network

Teragone Solutions holds stewardship of Mithril. VacuumLabs works on Plutus co-development. Input Output lists a broader partner network including Lantr, Harmonic Labs, SAIB, and TxPipe, with work administered through Intersect, the member-based organization coordinating Cardano development.

According to the announcement, at least three independent implementations of the Cardano node will be maintained under community oversight. These implementations are written in Haskell, Rust, and Go. Intersect and Pragma will oversee formal specifications, with development subject to community review and voting.

Input Output Shifts Focus to Research and Ventures

Input Output will concentrate more of its work on research and new ventures through IO Labs and IO Ventures following the component transfers.
