According to Xinhua News Agency, China's meteorological authority on July 17 officially delivered the MAZU 2.0 intelligent weather warning system to Djibouti, upgrading spatial forecasting resolution to 3 kilometers from 9 kilometers and extending forecast coverage to 3 days with 6-hourly updates. The 2.0 system, featuring integrated weather chips and forecast models, will work in coordination with the 1.0 version donated in 2025 to create an end-to-end monitoring and warning solution.
The system integrates phased array radar, short-range forecasting algorithms, AI models, and leverages China's Fengyun meteorological satellites for disaster monitoring and on-orbit risk computation. Deployment in Djibouti is expected by year-end and the system can be replicated to other weather-critical regions globally.
