According to the Los Angeles Times, Cisco (CSCO-US) laid off 471 employees in California this week, according to filings submitted to the state's Employment Development Department. The cuts span three Bay Area office locations and include positions in software engineering, product management, design, and business operations.
The layoffs are part of Cisco's broader plan announced in May to reduce fewer than 4,000 positions globally, representing less than 5% of its workforce. The company is restructuring to prioritize artificial intelligence investments, with CEO Chuck Robbins stating in May that Cisco aims to become an "AI-era winner" while adjusting its cost structure to align with market opportunities.
