Blockchain analyst Specter flagged CodexField, a decentralized code management platform built on BNB Greenfield, over suspected rug-pull activity involving more than $85 million in user funds in a community alert posted on X on July 9. Specter disclosed that $17.3 million in USDT had been traced moving from the TRON blockchain to Ethereum, then swapped for DAI on Polygon via Bitget Swap. The allegations carry weight because CodexField won first place in the Infrastructure category of BNB Chain's Hackvolution hackathon in September 2023, and BNB Chain has documented approximately $1.64 billion in total network losses from fraud and security incidents since 2020 according to blockchain security company Immunefi.
Specter identified a deposit contract (0x9E6A75b546B65E7B9D34E2c9aB8Fe224B9aA52AA) and claimed that multiple official CodexField domain addresses all pointed to the same contract. Blockchain intelligence platform MetaSleuth labeled the contract as "Fake CodexField," though Specter said he verified it was used for real user deposits through the project's official channels and deposit tutorials.
Of the $17.3 million traced in the initial batch, $6.5 million had been successfully transferred while $10.8 million remained in transit, the analyst wrote. The deposit contract's full transaction history is publicly available on BscScan for independent review. Neither CodexField nor BNB Chain has confirmed or denied the findings as of July 10.
The $85 million figure has not been independently verified through a complete transaction-by-transaction breakdown, and the analyst's post did not include full wallet attribution for that estimate. Specter stated that treasury funds appeared to move through intermediary wallets before reaching centralized exchanges.
In September 2023, BNB Chain promoted the platform on its official blog after it won first place in the Infrastructure category of BNB Chain's Hackvolution hackathon. CodexField positions itself as a decentralized GitHub alternative, allowing developers to store repositories on-chain and monetize their software through a blockchain-based marketplace rather than through centralized hosting platforms.
According to a report from blockchain security company Immunefi, total network losses from 2020 onward reached approximately $1.64 billion, with $368 million attributed to fraud across 228 cases. Rug pulls accounted for 44% of BNB Chain's total losses in 2023, compared with just 1.7% for similar scams on Ethereum during the same period.
In October 2025, OracleBNB vanished after deleting all website and social media accounts shortly before its token lost more than 95% of its value. Earlier, blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs linked the 2021 SQUID token scam to the theft of over 35,000 BNB, valued at $19.3 million at the time, leaving investors unable to withdraw their funds.
