The Depository Trust Company (DTC), a subsidiary of the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC), launched its first limited production trade of tokenized real-world assets (RWA) on July 15. The pilot represents the first live transaction—not a simulation—in a production environment, validating operational and technical procedures using actual assets.
More than 50 institutions, including BlackRock, JP Morgan, and Goldman Sachs, participated in the Industry Working Group to develop the service and verify interoperability. DTCC, which currently holds approximately $114 trillion in assets in custody, plans to launch the full service in October, with a long-term goal of processing major U.S. financial assets including equities, ETFs, and Treasury securities on a blockchain-based infrastructure while maintaining existing ownership rights and investor protections.
