ECB Selects 36 Payment Providers for 12-Month Digital Euro Pilot Launching in H2 2027

According to the ECB, the central bank selected 36 payment service providers on Tuesday (July 14) for a 12-month digital euro pilot scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027. The selected participants were drawn from more than 50 applicants and include major eurozone institutions such as Deutsche Bank, UniCredit, and BPCE, alongside digital-native platforms including Revolut Bank, Stripe Technology, and Adyen N.V. The pilot will test payment functions, operational processes, and user experience with participation from Eurosystem staff, e-commerce merchants, and businesses including cafeterias and restaurants.
